Spring campaign: Collecting textile in 50 schools and kindergartens

Some schools and kindergartens of Međimurje region have already started, and others will soon launch our annual spring campaign to collect used and unused clothing and home textiles.Organized by Humana Nova and partners to mark Earth Day, this campaign prevents textile from becoming waste. This year, some 50 institutions across Međimurje County in Northern Croatia are participating. Typically, students and teachers at each school collect between 200 and 300 kilograms of high-quality and well-preserved textiles, which are an excellent basis for circular economy models.

This ecological and educational campaign takes place in the weeks around Earth Day, celebrated on April 22.

Although textiles can be reused, the majority of used clothing ends up in landfills. Donating used clothing and home textiles supports the reuse process and contributes to reducing waste, water and energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. It is vital to educate children and young people about this, and to support them in developing good habits.

In order for old textiles to get a “second life”, they must be collected clean and dry. Humana Nova transports the items to our facility in Čakovec, where everything is carefully sorted:

  • Wearable clothing is displayed and sold at affordable prices in our second-hand shop in Čakovec.
  • Preserved items are redesigned and upcycled into new products.
  • Worn-out cotton is cut into industrial rags; buttons are removed and reused in creative workshops.
  • Unusable textiles are recycled in cooperation with partners from Regeneracija non-wovens LLC, to create felt.

All participating schools and kindergartens will receive a certificate from Humana Nova for their contribution to environment protection.
